Did you know that 80% of women enter pregnancy with low iron levels?

Iron deficiency, a prevalent global health concern, arises when the body lacks sufficient iron to produce adequate amounts of haemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells essential for transporting oxygen. This condition is particularly common due to various factors, such as dietary inadequacies, increased physiological demands, and blood loss. In populations with limited access to iron-rich foods or those following restrictive diets, the risk of iron deficiency is amplified. Pregnancy further increases this risk, as the body's iron requirements significantly increase to support the growing fetus and placenta and to compensate for blood loss during childbirth. In pregnancy, iron deficiency can lead to anaemia, which is associated with risks such as preterm delivery, low birth weight, and impaired cognitive and physical development of the child. Postpartum, the concern continues as iron stores are often depleted. This can impact a new mother's recovery, affect the quality of breast milk, and increase the risk of postpartum depression.

In response to overwhelming popularity, I created this iron protocol to offer clear guidance and insight into the complexities of iron supplementation and its requirements, particularly targeting those impacted by iron deficiency, or those who might be at risk. This protocol delves into the reasons behind the prevalence of iron deficiency during pregnancy and postpartum periods, emphasising the various forms of iron. It presents a balanced approach, combining whole foods and supplements, to manage and optimise your iron levels, tailored to your specific stage in your health journey. Whether you're navigating the challenges of pregnancy, dealing with postpartum changes, or simply looking to maintain healthy iron levels, this protocol is designed to support and inform you every step of the way.
